Halloween Obesity Letter a Hoax??

So, a little radio station in the middle of Fargo, ND reportedly found a woman who wrote a letter to children that she felt were obese. It got TONS of media coverage from the Today show to CNN.

What if I told you I thought it was a COMPLETE hoax?? Yes, that is right, I think the lady that "called in" to the radio about that letter was about as real as snuffaluffagus. Want proof?

Werther's Originals Mommy Party!

It is party time! We had a blast sampling Werther's with MommyParties! They sent us a party kit just filled with delicious Werther's originals, and we had a blast creating recipes.

Our favorite BY FAR was the caramel hot chocolate. We NEVER would have thought of adding it, but it was delicious and the kids loved it! We also added it to hot apple cider, which I preferred!

Caramel apples, caramel apple pie, there are so many ways to use caramel this fall! It is one of my favorite Fall flavors!

We thank MommyParties and Werther's for such a fun Fall party! We had a blast and loved all of the Werther's deliciousness!

Create Jigsaw Puzzle Review

We love puzzles in our family, and especially love unique puzzles!  Create Jigsaw sent us our own personalized puzzle for review, and we think it makes a perfect gift!

The puzzle comes in a great box, with the photo of the puzzle on the front.

The puzzle itself is a mix of different sized pieces. This through us off a little at first, but my kids separated the puzzle pieces based on size amongst them, so it actually worked out well and made the puzzle even more unique!

Pumpkin Carving Tips!

This weekend, my family and I are carving our pumpkins! What fun! Each year the kids go out to pick their pumpkins, and we carve them 2 weeks before Halloween (so we know they will last).

My broken foot!

Ouch mamas!

I had a major fall earlier this week. I slipped and felt right on my foot. So far I have a confirmed sprained ankle. I went to the emergency room, as my food looked dislocated, but the x-rays showed no broken bones, so I was rushed to a neighboring hospital to see a podiatrist for a suspected detached ligament. Well, after much consultation, they believe it is a ruptured joint capsule. They are actually really not sure because my foot is so swollen. I go back in Tuesday, but was told to expect to wear this for at least 3-4 weeks!

Claritin Back to School Allergy Tips

As a Claritin Mom Crew Member, I loved receiving the following Back to School Allergy Tips!!

1. Be sure to have Children’s Claritin, the #1 pediatrician-recommended non-drowsy allergy brand, on hand!

2. Multi-vitamins are building blocks to having a strong immune system. Make taking a multi-vitamin part of your child’s daily routine.

3. Let there be light! Mold doesn't like sunlight, so try to keep your curtains open during the day. Should be easy during the summer months!

4. Did you know that most pillows trap allergens, dust mites, and bacteria? Monitor the cleanliness of the pillow your child with allergies sleeps on and replace if necessary.

5. Back to school season means lots of laundry for many moms. Be sure to remove laundry from the washing machine promptly. Allowing wet clothes to sit in the washer means mold can quickly grow there.

6. Monitor pollen counts and adjust outdoor before and after school activities accordingly. Dry, windy days can be particularly high in pollen.

7. Showering or bathing at the end of the day as opposed to the morning can be helpful in removing allergens from body surfaces and hair.

8. Stay hydrated! Always send your child to school with a bottle of water. Drinking lots of clear fluids through the day can help get rid of toxins and flush out body.

9. Peak pollen production typically occurs in early morning, so try to plan outside activities at other times of the day.

My Grandmother

My mom called me this week to let me know that my grandmother passed away. It has been a rough September for us.

Grandmothers are so important. They show us where our own parents came from, and they are quick to offer hugs and support whenever needed.

The thing I will remember the most about my grandmother is that she was a story teller. I would like to think, if she was born in a later generation she would be a blogger, a reporter, an author. She loved sharing stories of her youth and her own family. These are stories that are my history, my legacy.

She loved talking about her early schooling and her success. She did not attend school past the 5th grade, but she loved education. Her favorite thing to do in life was to read. She could read through an entire book within the day, so keeping her well stocked with books was important. In her home, she had boxes and boxes of books that she had just finished. Today, I know that my own love of reading stemmed from her great passion.

When I visited, I knew more about her day than people who I saw on a daily basis, because she loved telling me the most minute details about the world around her. She saw everything, and remembered everything, and knew how to weave the details into a delicate tapestry that would become a beautiful story.

My grandmother had an amazing memory. She had 18 children and over 50 grandchildren, but she never forgot a single one. She remembered everyone's birthdays, every year. And she never forgot to whisper in your ear that you were her "favorite." She was always ready for your visit with gifts and candy, treats and baubles.

She has left behind a legacy that will live forever.

Monkey Balm: Helping the Skin of Your Little Monkeys

We are loving the new design of Monkey Balm! We were recently send one for review and the new packaging is so adorable, and the KIDS love it!

Making Your Mornings Snarl Free: Knot Genie Review

She is a littermate to our recently adopted Katniss and we are thrilled to add her to our family!

Getting Healthier!

So, what is next on our getting healthier journey? Diet, diet diet! Not eating less, but eating right! I am giving up soda (again), drinking more water, and trying to eliminate processed foods! Wish me luck!
