Birchbox August 2012 Review

We FINALLY received our BirchBox. I believe this is what we can all call an epic FAIL!

  • First up, I have not seen this in the other boxes, but it is a Whish Shave Cream in Pomegranate. It is a 1 oz bottle. Based on Amazon per ounce prices, Value: $4.00
  • Schick Hydro Silk Razor. Based on Amazon per item (best price), Value: $3.27-- this item was considered a "bonus" item, and is not considered a part of the box per BirchBox.
  • Yu Be Moisturizing Skin Cream. Based on Amazon per ounce prices, Value: $1.10
  • Viva La Juicy Vial of Perfume (yes, the cheap ones you can get free in a department store). Based on Amazon per ounce  prices, Value: $1.97
  • They also include a sample card with the foil packets of foundation (no joke, look below), Value: Epic FAIL! I can get these for FREE!!!! From a magazine.
 Total Value: $7.07. Given that each BirchBox is $10 this is a very bad value. Essentially, they are saying that I am not paying for the items but for the service or receiving their box. Umm . . . actually, I WAS hoping they would provide at least $10 worth of items . . . I do not find that unrealistic at all.

To be honest, I think there are MUCH better values out there for beauty subscription boxes. I usually leave a link here of how you can buy your own Birch Box, but I want to be clear and upfront with my readers. I do not think you should buy a Birch Box. I really do not. I think a much better deal is MyGlam. You can visit them at: www.myglam.com. This is not a referral link, and I do not get anything from sending you to a competitor. MyGlam actually does not even offer referral links. AND you can write all of your comments directly on their wall as comments for everyone to clearly see. BirchBox fans, you all know EXACTLY what I am talking about.

    I'm so disgusted with my box this month as well. Birchbox is definitely on the chopping block with me. I got the dreaded box #6 with all the self tanners. ughh..

      Yours may be just as bad as mine. I got the tanning towels LAST month . . . so glad I did not get them again since they are just sitting in my closet waiting for the trash bin.

    I got the self-tanner one two months back, and I should've cancelled then. This month I got the same box as you, Mamabreak, and I just cancelled. Everything in that #$%^ box can be had for FREE at Sephora or Ulta with the possible exception of the shave cream: and really, do I wanna spend twenty bucks on SHAVE CREAM? Hell, no, so goobye, BB, enough for me too!

    I got the same box as you, and I cancelled my account with them and signed up with Sample Society.

      I think that is going to be my new plan as well. I was ok with sample society. At least when they sent smaller samples it was on a REALLY high end brand. I love Stila, but do not consider it to be high-end. :)

    Blarg! My birchbox sucked this month and last month. I got a tiny sample of lotion, a face wash sample (which was nice but not high end), the razor, a perfume sample, and that's it!! No makeup at all. And besides the razor, no full size products or deluxe samples. A razor? Seriously? Maybe if it was some cool new brand I've never heard of...
    Las month was the head phones. Cute color but only one ear actually produced sound and it was tinny at best. Who cares if they're cute when they're defective? Bye Bye birchbox.

      Horrible! I think they have gone down hill since I have joined. I think the razor really pushed people over the edge this month.

    I must be the only one that liked my box, even though it wasn't that great and I could have gotten most of it for free (the little lipgloss and perfume sample, like really?). But I loved the razor so I was happy to get it.

      I think yours was a little better than mine. I ended up with a foil sample, which does not even have a value. :) And I am a sucker for lip gloss. I wonder what this month will bring . . . I got my tracking number today!
